Megafile 20/SH205

Post by Robson »

Hi,

I'm wondering if you can help me to find the problem with a megafile sh205 and 20. Both of these drives do the same thing. HDDriver (latest) detects them but there are no partitions and also formatting and all kind of disk operations are failed. I have the feeling that the driver detects the enclosure but the physical hard drive could be damaged. I tested one of these units with ahdi as well same result.

But because the exact thing happening in both cases I wonder this might be something you can answer or seen before.

A megafile 60 works well with the st/cable etc.

Thanks.

You are using the same cables and cases for all of these drives? Any difference can be relevant.
If the hardware setup except for the actual drives is the same, and if only the Megafile 60 works, it is unlikely that your problems are caused by anything else than the Megafile 20 and SH205 drives.
Have you already checked the last error report (HDDRUTIL: Last Error) when formatting fails? The error codes may give a hint on what's wrong, even though in contrast to real SCSI drives Megafile/SH error codes are not as useful.

Same hardware.

Last error says:
Sense Key:$00
Additional Sense Code: $00
ASCQ: $00
I guess it's not too much.

All sub menus in MEDIUM menu give me some sort of error (partition/format, etc).

I'm trying to get an old ST-225.

Indeed, the error codes say that the drive reports that nothing is wrong, which would indicate that the problem is not related to the drive, but to something else. But since your other drives work this is unlikely. Proabably something is so wrong that it is not even possible to read error codes from the drives.
Looks quite inconsistent.
