Falcon with SCSI

Post by tuipveus »

Hello,

I have Quantum Atlas II 10k 18.2 GB harddisk which I try to use with my Atari Falcon. The "Device check" of hddrutil detects only Bus 1: Atari SCSI (07:00: Atari Falcon hddriver 0847 processor) and Bus 2: Atari ide (with cf-card).

The disk which I connected to bus is not detected. Do I need to do something for it to get detected ? Or am I doing something wrong ?

The cable does not have terminator (as far as I can guess) and I am not sure if I can do termination with disk jumper. What is the termpwr ? I have enabled the narrow mode, but it doesnt seem to help either.

Any idea how can I get my scsi detected by hddrutil ? Do I need terminator to harddrive end ?

Note that the disk drive does not support on-board SCSI termination.

As the SCSI bus always has to be terminated on both ends, not terminating the drive in any way is not compliant with the SCSI standard. If you cannot terminate the drive, you should try an external active terminator.
It's probably a good idea to also ask other users that already have connected 16 bit SCSI drives to a Falcon or TT for help in other Atari forums.
In general, driver software for 8 bit SCSI controllers does not see any difference between an 8 bit and a 16 bit SCSI hard drive. The SCSI standard ensures downward compatibility, provided the hardware setup (cables, termination) is working correctly.
