Hi,
I need your advice, since I tried a lot of things without succes:
I have a TT and an external SCSI card reader, which is assigned to one SCSI ID and 4 LUNs.
I see the CARD reader is recognized by HDDRIVER and I also can partition the CF card with HDDUTIL.APP.
My problem is that no drive letter is assigned to it on boot, no matter what I do.
Would you please tell me your advice what to check?
I made some pics: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... drive_link
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Jozsi

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
Looks like you have a similar (or even the same, a PCD-50B) SCSI card reader I have. My guess is that the partitions you created are too big (> 512 MB) for TOS 3.0 or you had byte-swapping enabled when partitioning.
Also ensure that in "Devices and Partitions" after double-clicking the SCSI ID of your reader all LUNs you want to use (they correspond to the different memory card slots) are enabled. Furthermore check that your removable media settings make sense, because a memory card reader is a removable media drive. Please also refer to the manual for details on all these settings.

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
Thank you for the quick reply.
- The CF card is 256MB, so that is not the issue.
- Byte-Swapping is not enabled
- All 4 LUNS are enabled in devices and partitions
I boot up the computer with the CF card installed, so no media change detection should occur.
Is there a downloadable version of the manual?
Thanks in advance!

Jozsi

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
The removable media settings are relevant even when there is no media change. But if the CF card is present when booting these settings should not matter. Please confirm that when booting HDDRIVER reports the LUNs you have configured, in particular the LUN for the CF card slot. Can you post the partition setup, i.e. the data saved to the clipboard with the "Clipboard" button in the partitioning dialog.
Regarding the manual, there is no downloadable manual for HDDRIVER 11 but only the printed manual. A manual as a PDF is only available with HDDRIVER 12.

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
Hi,
Here is what I got from the clipboard:
HDDRUTIL 11.14 Partition Overview
Atari SCSI 4.1: SCSI Compact Flash
Format: TOS/Windows
'' 32 505760
As far as I can tell no luns are displayed on boot, only the devices.
I uploaded the photo of the assigned LUNS of the reader: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rR9iT_ ... sp=sharing
Thanks,
Jozsi

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
The LUN settings look fine, but if HDDRIVER does not display the configured LUNs when booting, that's most likely what's causing your problem. For each configured LUN that is found HDDRIVER display the SCSI ID, LUN and the device name when booting. Something like "Atari SCSI 4.1: SCSI Compact Flash" should be displayed.
It looks as if the HDDRIVER program file you have configured is not the one that's booted, i.e. not HDDRIVER.SYS on your boot partition. You can select the program file to configure with "Locate HDDRIVER".

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
OK, I had to record it with the camera in order to observe what it writes to the screen (the desktop came in so fast). And that was it: after pointing to hddriver.sys on the C drive, it now assigns a new partition to it! Thanks!
One more question: I also have a 88MB syquest drive (the one with cartridges), but no matter what I do, it refuses to partition it because it says that it is write protected.
I did a sector test on the disk inserted, and it completed successfully. Do you have any idea?
Thans,
Jozsi

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
I'm not sure what you mean with "pointing to hddriver.sys on the C drive", but I assume that my assumption was correct and you did not configure the right program file. After configuring the right binary the partition on the CF card is now correctly detected? Please confirm or correct me.
Regarding the Syquest drive: Either the cartridges are write-protected, indeed, or something might be wrong with the drive. Or you configured HDDRIVER to write-protect some partitions/drives.

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
Concerning your assumption: it was correct.
I'm not sure the drive has no problem, that's why I did the sector test. There is a write protection thing on the cartridge itself, but it behaves the same in both of its position.
I made no drive/partitions in write protected in HDDRIVER.
Is one of your tools can help finding out what is the issue here?

Re: CF card - No drive letters assigned
No, I don't think tools can help here. If the drive reports write protection, then for whatever reason it assumes that the cartridges are protected.
Note that the 88 MB Syquest drives can only read from but not write to 44 MB cartridges. If your cartridges were 44 MB catridges it would explain that the 88 MB drive regards them as being non-writable.
