HDDRIVER 12.03 & Falcon partitions

Post by alanh »

Creating partitions on a Falcon and HDDRUTIL 12.03 allows you to create a partition of 1072 without warning it is not TOS 4.0x compatible.

If you go ahead and create the partition, HDDRIVER locks up after probing the device with that partition on.

Why does it allow 1072 ? I thought the limit was 1024 for TOS 4.0x ?

Can't reproduce this now. I'll keep trying. And report back when it's consistent.

I also cannot reproduce it. I get the (expected) warning that you need MiNT or MagiC for these partitions. If you continue, a FAT32 ("F32") partition will be created, and this one only works with MiNT or MagiC.

Ok, I can consistently hang HDDRIVER now. After realizing that I need to set the 1024MB property properly, so I don't have to keep typing 1072 to mean 1023.

So,

BGM 1023
BGM 1023
BGM 1023
BGM 1023
BGM 1023
BGM 1023
BGM 1023
BGM 1023
BGM 1023
F32 40000
BSD 40000
UNX 40000
MNX 50000
LNX 50000

That hangs. If I change the MNX type to MIX then it boots, but HDDRUTIL gets confused on the last two partitions and thinks they are both MIX types instead of MIX and LNX. I can see this in the "Edit partitions" mode.

It must also be size related as I did create some smaller partitions and couldn't reproduce it.

As mentioned elsewhere I am afraid I currently do not have access to drives big enough to test this. This will have to wait for some time, don't know exactly how long.

Regarding the warning you were missing, you quite likely did not create any Atari-compatible partitions when there was no warning. The warning only appears if you create partitions with the usual TOS compatible IDs. If you assign IDs of your own there won't be a warning.

The warning was because I was using 1000MB instead of 1024MB. To me it's right to be 1024MB. I changed that and the warning is correct for 1024MB or above now.

I am confused now, because when you opened this thread you said you did *not* get a warning.

I was expecting a warning, and didn't get one when entering a value of 1072. It was because it was set to 1000, and not 1024.

I'm sorry, but I still cannot reproduce this. With any of these sizes (1000, 1024 or 1072 MB), I always get a warning. What exactly do you enter (type and size) to not get a warning when a warning should be displayed?
